 1. Organized by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization [UNESCO] to promote reading, publishing and copyright of books.
2. World Book Day was celebrated for the first time on 23 April 1995.
3. On 23 April :
a. Author Miguel de Cervantes died on.
b. Birth and death of William Shakespeare,
c. Deaths of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and Josep Pla, and
d. Birth of Maurice Druon, Manuel Mejía Vallejo and Halldór Laxness.

(ii) In the United Kingdom the World Book Day is held annually on the first Thursday in March, to avoid the  clashes with Easter school holidays.
