“The Greatest” former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali dies at 74
There
are thousands names of international boxers but a few are there which have
earned worldwide popularity due to their great sportsmanship and amongst all of
them, the name on the top is of former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali
who was suffering from respiratory illness and was admitted to a hospital on
Thursday in the US city of Phoenix in Arizona state and, unfortunately, has
died on June 3, 2016. He was 74.

born Ali came into the range of worldwide eyes by winning the light-heavyweight
gold medal at the Rome Olympics-1960. Giving nickname “The Greatest” to him was
fully justified as Ali was world heavyweight champion from 1964 to 1967, 1974
to 1978 and lastly from 1978 to 1979.
During
his boxing carrier, American boxer Ali competed in 61 professional bouts out of
which he remained winner in 56 giving highest winning percentage i.e. 91.80%.
As
a recognition of his best achievements, in 2005, Ali had received the President
Medal Of Freedom, the highest US Civilian Honor.
Giving condolence to Ali, on the behalf of
Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala, the coach Mr. Mohinder
Pal said, “Muhammad Ali was really a
great sportsperson. As a role model, he will remain forever in the hearts of worldwide
fellows concerned with the boxing. May Almighty bless his unforgettable soul to
rest in piece.”
Due
to his personality, achievements, confidence, bold predictions about his own winnings
just before entering the boxing ring, Ali will remain alive forever as as an
inspiration for so many young boxers.
